Family Violence Program

Domestic Violence is a pattern of coercive behavior that serves to establish and maintain power and control over the victim.

Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, Inc. provides advocacy and counseling services for victims of domestic violence.

The Family Violence Program offers support in the following areas:

  • 24 Hour Hotline
  • Crisis Counseling
  • Advocacy with other agencies and individuals
  • Support groups
  • Accompaniment to family and criminal court proceedings
  • Assistance in obtaining an Order of Protection
  • Help with applying for assistance at Department of Social Services
  • In some cases, placement in temporary housing
  • Emergency cell phones that dial directly to 911 from the 911 Cell Phone Bank Program
  • Long-Term Therapy
  • Any other services deemed necessary for the safety of the victim

Sexual Assault/Abuse Program

Sexual Assault is the forcing of unwanted sexual activity by one person on another, as by the use of threats or coercion. Sexual Abuse is sexual activity that is deemed improper or harmful, as between an adult and a minor or with a person of diminished mental capacity.

Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, Inc. provides advocacy and counseling services for victims of sexual assault/abuse, rape, incest, and sexual harassment. Our advocacy program offers support in the following areas:

  • 24 Hour Hotline
  • Crisis Intervention and Counseling
  • Information and Referrals
  • Medical Accompaniment
  • Legal Advocacy and Accompaniment
  • Support Groups, Including a Support Group for Victims of Clergy Abuse
  • Long-Term Therapy
  • Bilingual Services

Education and Prevention

Since 1982, Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, Inc. has offered educational presentations designed to meet the growing needs and interests of our surrounding counties

Prevention Education Coordinator can tailor all presentations to fit the needs and concerns of a particular audience. We offer presentations in a variety of settings including but not limited to schools, colleges, agencies, community groups, and churches. Education/Prevention Goals:

  • To raise awareness and work towards the prevention of rape, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, incest, and domestic violence.
  • To eliminate the stigma often associated with sexual offenses and/or abuse by a partner.
  • To enable youth and adults alike to make healthy decisions regarding relationships.
